While various types of emotional and neurological conditions were placed in one large basket for a long time, there are several specialised discourses happening on this topic in more recent times. This leads to the question if there is a surge in psychological challenges in the last few decades or are we merely getting better at recognizing them. A number of mental disorders have been named and categorised by experts including Anxiety, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Schizophrenia and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). While things like overeating was generally discouraged or only remarked upon until recently, it has now risen to the status of a full-fledged disorder.
TYPICAL TREATMENTS
The variety of approaches adopted to combat mental disorders include Medications, Psychotherapies and the creation of caring communities to help people cope with their issues. If none of these work effectively enough, Brain Stimulation Therapy (BST), which includes Electro-convulsive therapy (ECT), Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) and Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) is tried. Though these interventions have several advantages, they also have side effects like mood swings, irritability, headaches, drowsiness, weight gain, muscle aches, memory loss, disorientation, nausea and insomnia, to name a few. Therefore, more holistic approaches including Music Therapy are also being tried out by mental health specialists.
MUSOPATHY APPROACH
Musopathy offers solutions for numerous psychological and emotional imbalances including Stress, Anxiety and Depression. The Musopathy Mind Engineering & Management Techniques leverage on simple but regular practice of TBT as well as MANET sessions with experts (weekly or bi-weekly). These can create a micro-mental ecosystem within each individual which sharpens and strengthens the mind, making it less susceptible to many problems.
STRESS
Stress is often the root cause of diverse health issues including high acidity and other digestive disorders, headaches, sleep deficit etc. It is a combination of physical and emotional reaction that people are prone to feel when confronted by challenging situations. Stress can be short term or chronic, long term. As the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) states, there is no allopathy drug to cure stress at this time. Doctors however prescribe short term medication to manage or minimize it. Alternate approaches for Stress Management include yoga, mindfulness, or relaxation techniques, creative approaches such as composing songs, drumming, improvising on melody instruments and so forth. Musopathy Techniques such as Nasal and Pursed Lips Tonation as well as MANET have a huge potential to combat Stress.
ANXIETY & PANIC DISORDER
Anxiety is a broad disorder that includes general fears as well as specific ones. Panic Attack need not have anything more than a mere indefinable premonition as its trigger point which can manifest as an overwhelming fear or be accompanied by physical symptoms like a racing heart, breathing difficulties, sweating, chills, a choking feeling, dizziness or vertigo, lightheadedness, nausea, trembling, numbness or tingling in hands, feet, or face, chest pain or tightness and even fear of death. Medication can make it easier for some people to manage panic attacks and anxiety but are more effective when supplemented by lifestyle and behavioural changes.
Nasal Tonation can be a most effective solution for this as it will calm the mind speedily. Regular practice of it can gradually increase mental equanimity and confidence, perhaps eventually eliminating Anxiety and Panic altogether.
DEPRESSION
Depression is a mood disorder, and its symptoms can range from sadness or a sense of loss to intense anger and frustration, all of which can disrupt a person’s daily activities. Depression ranges in seriousness from mild, temporary episodes of sadness to severe, persistent depression. According to experts, Clinical depression is a more severe form of depression, labelled as major depressive disorder. Depression can also contribute to or worsen various health conditions, such as cardiovascular issues, obesity, cancer, and more, making it essential to manage regularly. Nasal Tonation, MANET and counseling sessions with Musopathy experts can enable one to detach oneself from the root causes of depression and even empower one to engage in positive social activities for one’s own well-being.
ANGER MANAGEMENT
Anger is an emotion characterized by tension and hostility arising from frustration, real or imagined injury by another, or perceived injustice. It can manifest itself in behaviors designed to remove the object of the anger (e.g., determined action) or behaviors designed merely to express the emotion (e.g., swearing). It is among the most common behavioral issues worldwide but if it is not controlled, it can not only impair judgment but also lead to immediate physiological reactions like Hormones flooding the body, blood pressure and heart rate increase. Repeated such episodes can lead to health consequences over time.
Nasal TBT can be an effective way to improve mental strength and equanimity which in turn will reduce and manage anger effectively. It is recommended to practice TBT even while the first signs of anger appears so that it does not flare up beyond control.
CBT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a treatment that helps individuals recognize and alter harmful or troubling thought patterns that negatively impact their behavior and emotions. TBT can be a valuable complement to CBT, especially when guided by expert counseling. This combination can help address issues such as addictions, anger, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, panic attacks, phobias, and more. Regular practice of Nasal, Pursed Lips and Geometric Tonation can provide lasting results without the need for invasive treatment and medication.
MOOD IMPROVEMENT
Practicing TBT can be an exciting occupation too and can be a mood enhancer. By focusing on increasing the duration of one’s Tonation (from say 5-6 seconds initially to even 20 seconds or more in a single breath can be a way of competing with oneself while also enhancing one’s lung health in an exciting and effective manner. The exciting Rhythmic Elements of Musopathy MANET can also be a great mood enhancer.
